Using Windows Vista Business (32 bit) …

After waiting over an hour and a half to download the full ME 7.1 installation, I wait over 2 minutes with a “Preparing installer for MyEclipse 7.1” progress dialog, only to get an error popup entitled:

“Error Preparing Installer”

with the message text “Unable to write to repository: file:/C:/Users/[username]/AppData/Local/Genuitec/Pulse Explorer.

I launched the .EXE file using “Run as Adminstrator” option, and see the directory C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Genuitec\Pulse Explorer being created and partially populated.

I tried deleting the directory “C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Genuitec” and re-trying the installation, but sill get the failure message.

My C: drive has over 16GB available, so I don’t think it’s a space issue.

I currently have ME ME 6.6 installed and previously tried ME 7.0 by removed due to Pulse issues.

Suggestions on getting ME 7.1 installed to verify/evaluate?

Hi,
Since you had 7.0 installed earlier, you will have to make sure that 7.0 was erased completely from your machine. These are the things you need to make sure:-

1. Run the 7.0 uninstaller.
2. Make sure the MyEclipse Install Directory has been completely removed
2.1. Pulse Install Directory, on XP it’s under C:\Program Files in \Pulse or \Genuitec, and on Vista it’s under <USER.HOME>\AppData\Local and then under \Pulse or \Genuitec again
3. Then make sure the pulse2.locator file under <USER.HOME> is erased as well.

Now try setting up ME 7.1. Let me know if the problem persists.

I had previously uninstalled ME 7.0 using the uninstaller because of problems with Pulse and other third party plug-ins, so I could not run the uninstaller.

There was no remnant of the original ME7 program directory. There was a <USER.HOME>\AppData\Local\Genuitec subdirectory, which had yesterday’s timestamp, but I removed it entirely. There was no <USER.HOME>\AppData\Local\Pulse subdirectory. There was a <USER.HOME>\pulse2.locator file, with yesterday’s timestamp which was deleted.

I tried launching the myeclipse-7.1-win32.exe installer from an explorer window using Run As Adminstrator, only to have it fail with the same error. I removed the newly created <USER.HOME>\AppData\Local\Genuitec subdirectory and <USER.HOME>\pulse2.locator file and tried running it again, using just Run (supposedly under my user credentials), only to get the same error.

I checked the Genuitec subdirectory and found a Common\logs subdirectory with the following:

There is an java.io.IOException where the directory “C:\Users\ez\AppData\Local\Genuitec\Pulse Explorer\plugins\com.genuitec.pulse.client.common.shortcut.win32_2.4.0.200902181700” could not be created, but I was able to use a Command Window and the mkdir command to create the directory.

I think I’ll try the Update Site installation to see if I can get this installed.

Following the instructions @ http://myeclipseide.com/module-htmlpages-display-pid-383.html, I downloaded Eclipse 3.4.2 Classic and tried using the ME7 Update Site. I used Help -> Software Updates and specified the site URL as
http://downloads.myeclipseide.com/downloads/products/eworkbench/7.0/updates/ and selected the “MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench version 7.x”.

The instructions (http://myeclipseide.com/module-htmlpages-display-pid-383.html) indicate there should be separate ICEFaces,Matisse4MyEclipse, and Reports options, but theses are all included in the Workbench branch (documentation needs updating).

After clicking Install to install the ME workbench plug-in, the Install failed with a “Cannot complete the request. See details.” message box, followed by a message box stating “The software items you selected may not be valid with your current installation. Do you want to open the wizard anyway to review the selections?” Clicking Yes shows a dialog stating “Cannot complete the request. See details”

1.Can you give me the exact byte size of the 7.1 installer so I can make sure it’s not corrupted.

2. Can you try and run the installer *not* as administrator, just double-click it like normal.

3. Also, cleaning out the AppData directory and .pulse2.locator file that you have been doing is exactly the right way to totally clean out a MyEclipse/Pulse installer incase your curious.

1. The myeclipse-7.1-win32.exe downloaded is of size 668,518,556 bytes. After downloading, I checked and compared the MD5SUM of the .exe and it matches the documented value of 0114834e98a54290062427fd2389e42a.
2. In my last post, I noted that I had first tried “Run as Administrator” as well as just “Run”. Same outcome on both occasions. But, my user account is setup as a local administrator.

I was finally able to get the Update Site installation to work with a clean “Classic Eclipse 3.4.2” install with a clean workspace. Now I just have to go back and recreate my previous workspace configuration for my personal preferences, CVS repositories, SQL server connections, etc., etc., etc. Seems like with current 7x. releases, one seems to spend most of the time installing, or trouble shooting installation issues.

MyEclipse 7.x has not been tested with 3.4.2 so we don’t support ME with 3.4.2 officially but since it works for you, they might be compatible.

If you have All in one installer, you should be able to install MyEclipse 7.1. Eclipse version is important when you are trying to add MyEclipse as a plugin to Eclipse using the update site. I would recommend you to verify the download file size of the installer. Take your computer offline, and run the installer. Let me know if this works.

Guys, there turns out to be a race-condition in the JVM’s implementation of File.makeDirs (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=265654) that we had to patch around to fix this. A fix should be forthcoming shortly.
