    Hello –
I just updated to 5.1 from 5.0 from Help>Software Updates>Find and Install> Search for updated of the currently installed features

This worked fine, except that now, when I try to perform another update (either of currently installed, or new), I get the
“Network connection problems encountered during search” error, with details:
Network connection problems encountered during search.
    Unable to access “http://update.eclipse.org/updates/3.2”.
Unable to access site: “http://update.eclipse.org/updates/3.2” [update.eclipse.org]
Unable to access site: “http://update.eclipse.org/updates/3.2” [update.eclipse.org]
    Unable to access “http://eclipse-cs.sourceforge.net/update”.

… etc. I searched through the forums, and found a post suggesting to restart eclipse once with the -clean flag to clear the plugin cache.
I started MyEclipse with this flag, and also tried starting just eclipse itself with the flag, but no luck. ANy suggestions?

Hmm, are you behind a firewall or proxy by chance? You may need to just update your Proxy settings under Window > Prefs > Install & Update at the bottom.

I figured out the problem, but I don’t understand it – My proxy settings were fine (51 kept the old config info, as it should). The problem was that I had to select the “compatible” box in the “Valid updates” section of Install/Update in order to install 5.1 as an upgrade to the 5.0 install. After that the updates didn’t work until I re-selected the “equivalent” box. This is not MyEclipse’s problem, but more appropriate error messages would certainly help here!

Thank you for following up for folks that have run into a similar situation. I agree, the message could be better.
