I have been using JFaceDBC for a while now, and when it went commercial, I was happy to pay for a licence for its use (its an extremely decent tool – as I’m sure you know, since I assume you took the last public branch to add into the ME project).

However, when I uninstalled ME, it also took my JFACEDBC libraries. I highly suggest that if you are going to integrate the old libraries (and/or modify expand them), you rename them so as not to collide with another commercial product. If I am mistaken in that assumption, then the problem is even more annoying that the uninstaller would remove the jfacedbc directories from the plugins.

    Charles,
This is one of the big reasons that we have MyEclipse install in a completely separate location from Eclipse and use the “product extension” mechanism to hook into it. The only way I can see this happening is if you had installed MyEclipse into your Eclipse plugins & features directory and then overwrote the JFace plugins dirs with your registered copy OR if you installed JFace into your MyEclipse plugins & features directory… was this the case? If you had MyEclipse installed into a separate directory per the install instructions, then it would have not gone into your Eclipse plugins dir and selective erased your plugins (that I’m aware of… unless you made it angry 😉

Please clarify what the install situation was. We may need to add some protections in place to avoid this in the future.

If I have a chance, I’ll double check this again tonight, but –

I always install MyEclipse to- c:\apps\MyEclipse
Eclipse is in c:\apps\eclipse and other plugins are installed normally in the eclipse plugin directory.

Hmm that sounds perfectly fine then… where was JFace installed at the time of the murder? 😛
