I have 9.0 spring and using the configuration centre to update, I have 2 items to update MES 9.1 and Pulse 4.0. Check both

An internal error occurred during: “update”.
Could not locate root IU for com.poweredbypulse.profile-0-rb-2288956-1305958016259

Check only one of them and try again, same issue.

    Windows 7 ultimate, 64Bit
    Running with administrator permissions.

I have to say that I have been using MyEclipse for a few years now and never once have I had a trouble free upgrade. Usually ends up as a new install.

    My system config is attached.

    Chris,

Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. I am afraid I could not reproduce this issue at my end. The updates for 9.1 and pulse 4 went through. I am afraid your system config file did not come through. Could you do the following –
    1. Open MyEclipse for Spring IDE, from menu options click on MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details and copy and paste the same here
    2. Open your .log file located at [your workspace dir]/.metadata/.log, and attach relevant portion of the file here
    3. In case you are behind firewall / proxy, please set the same here – window > preferences > general > network connections and retry

Alternatively, I would suggest you upgrade using pulse. Please follow below steps –
    1. Open Pulse (Start > Programs > Pulse > Pulse Explorer or download from http://www.poweredbypulse.com)
    2. Login to pulse
    3. Select “Eclipse – Helios” realm from top left hand corner dropdown
    4. Select “MyEclipse for Spring 9” from “My Profiles”
    5. Right click on the same and click on [re-install and run]
This will open a wizard which will guide you through the rest of the steps

Let me know how this works for you.

Thank you for your installation detail. I have escalated your post to dev team member, they would get back to you shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Chris,

Sorry you’ve had this problem and that you’ve often had similar problems with updates. We don’t have the exact system that you have but I’ve tried this update on Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit and had no problem with the update, either with a 32 bit or a 64 bit MyEclipse for Spring installation. Our support staff frequently do these sorts of updates and rarely have a problem. We also don’t get a lot of update problems reported from users. So it seems you’ve been a bit unlucky.

I’m afraid that I can only suggest a reinstall and update, or a new install.

Thanks for the feedback, I just reinstalled again and then spent the rest of my afternoon setting up my configuration again.

I just don’t have these issues with standard Eclipse and I’ve had these types of issue with every upgrade, I really can’t remember ever having an upgrade work and every time I have been told to do a clean install.

    Sorry about the problems, Chris.

Could you let us know what configuration you’re talking about? Does your old workspace not work with the new installation? I’d be happy to raise an enhancement request if there are ways we can improve this sort of recovery for users.

The main issue is that the only way to get it installed clean is I need to install in a new directory, or rename my old directory 1st. So all my dropins are lost and need to be reconfigured. Invariably that means that at least one of projects doesn’t function correctly so I need to clean that up as well.

By the time I have started trying to upgrade to the time I finally have a functioning system, I’ve lost 1 man day. With so many projects going on at the same time I find myself reluctant to upgrade because I can’t afford the time. Conversely my standard Helios upgrades never have any issue.

    Chris,

It’s a shame we can’t replicate the problems you have each time with updates. If we could, we might be able to track this down. Anecdotally, we don’t seem to have many problems reported with updates, though some do occur, of course.

I can see that having to reinstall and reconfigure plug-ins could be a pain. I’ll try to see if there is anything we can do to help in this area.

Of course, it’s possible to install new releases side by side, so this reconfiguration could be done over, say, a week, whenever you have a bit of slack time. I realise that it’s not ideal and not an option if you need to upgrade to fix a specific problem, but maybe it’s one way of approaching it, in some situations.

    Sorry, again, for the problems.
