Ken DiederichMemberI’ve had eclipse and MyEclipse installed for nearly a year now. When I scan for updates (either on Eclipse of MyEclipse), it shows no updates available, yet I’m still using an old release of both products.
I’d like to upgrade to the latest 3.8 release of MyEclipse. How should I approach this? Also, do I need to be on a newer build of Eclipse 3.0?
I’m using:
Eclipse Version: 3.0.0 Build id: 200312182000
MyEclipse: 3.6.200
Java 1.4.2_03Wow — the insert (below) shows no version info. (My install must be really messed up, although it seems to work fine.)

If not, was it upgraded to its current version using the update manager?

Scott AndersonParticipantThe best way to accomplish this is to do a parallel installation of Eclipse 3.0 and MyEclipse 3.8.1. Install a fresh copy of the release version Eclipse 3.0 SDK from the Eclipse website. Then, download one of our platform-specific installers or the manual installation zip and install that on top of the new Eclipse installation. At that point you’ll have a complete MyEclipse installation. Run the new install and check Window > Preferences > MyEclipse and see that it has a build id of 3.8.1+QF20040825. Once that’s done, I’d shutdown Eclipse, make a copy of your current workspace, and then open the new installation on the copied workspace. This will check for migration issues to Eclipse 3.0 final, since you’re now using a milestone build. Once you’re satisfied that everything is OK, you can use the new version on your old workspace, keeping the copy as a backup for a little while, just to be safe. 🙂
By the way, the insert of the system information is just a template you’re supposed to manually fill out. There’s likely nothing wrong with your installation.
