erouseParticipantNot sure if this is the right place for this or even if this is a result of having MyEclipse installed but…
I got the pop-up notice that there were updates available for Eclipse and I select yes, to update. It tooks several hours to download version 3.0.1, eclipse.buildId=I200406251208 (from the log file). Side question; is this normal?
After the update applied I get a generic error has occured message and a log file is created in the configuration directory. The log is 45K in size and I can post it here if you want.
Has anyone else had this problem? Should I be asking for help from Eclipse instead of here? Was there something I should have done before downloading the updates? Should I just uninstall and reinstall MyEclipse or will I have to do both? Do I need to expect this kind of thing whenever I update Eclipse?
erouseParticipantDoh! Sorry, I should have put this in the original post. This is the exception that was thrown.

erouseParticipantNM, this is definitely an Eclipse problem and nothing to do with MyEclipse. I have taken it over to them. Though if you know how to fix this, I would welcome a real solution. So far their fix is delete the configuration dir and restart, but that only means that it will continue to bug you about updating cause it thinks you haven’t done it yet. 🙁
snpeMembereclipse.buildId=I200406251208 is 3.0 final
erouseParticipantWindows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4
Eclipse Platform Version: 3.0.0 Build id: 200406251208
Eclipse was freshly installed for MyEclipse
No other external plugins are used
14 plugins like org.eclipse.pde.* (7 different ones with a 3.0.0 and a 3.0.1 version of each)
MyEclipse version 3.8.1
java version “1.4.2_03”
same as above for App server
using app server Tomcat 4.1Yes, it means that the Eclipse update process is not working. I have a post on their forums and am getting ready to create a bug report, once I figure out where it goes. 😆
snpeMemberremove one form 2 same plugins (btw remove 3.0.1 if You have same with 3.0.0) and restart eclipse with -clean option (or remove configuration directory in ECLIPSE_HOME)
You can remove double features , too
regards
erouseParticipantAre you saying I should delete the 3.0.1 versions (the Eclipse updates) from the directory and keep the older ones? Am I not supposed to be applying the Eclipse updates as they become available?
I did the remove config directory so I could get things working, but I lost a bunch of settings when I did. You know, little things like my appserver settings. I know this is not your problem, or at least I hope it’s not, but it is unacceptable that I can not apply the updates as they become available.
If this is a result of having MyEclipse installed, then I expect it to be fixed quickly. Otherwise, I will direct my ire at Eclipse.org.
Good product by the way, I really like it otherwise.
snpeMemberno , I mistake, sorry – remove older, but backup it in another location
regards
snpeMemberadd :
eclipse 3.0.1 work fine with MyEclipse – your problem is mixed pluginsregards
Riyad KallaMemberMoving to Random Thoughts for user help
Riyad KallaMembererouse, I’m sorry I don’t have any ideas off the top of my head outside of what snpe already suggested. Hopefully that will work.
Victor OttMemberJust for the protocol, want to confirm that there’s sometimes a problem when updating 3.0 to 3.0.1 via internet update. In my case, after the ~ 3 hours update, Eclipse did afterwards nothing but crash when starting. Besides ME plugin, I had Spindle, FindBugs and HybernateSynchronizer installed (‘had’ because now I don’t have them anymore… grrrr).
eclipse 3.0.1 work fine with MyEclipse
I’d like to hear the statement that “E 3.0 with ME installed survives the 3.0.1 update“. However, in the meantime I’m pretty convinced that the Problem lies in Eclipse itself:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=74621
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=74624Deleting the “configuration” directory finally helped, but ME wasn’t recognized as installed, FindBugs too ==> unusable. Ergo: new install with 3.0.1 downloaded archives, my backuped config is 3 weeks old.
Victor.

Riyad KallaMemberDeleting the “configuration” directory finally helped, but ME wasn’t recognized as installed
Extensions, which is how ME is installed, are saved in your config dir, so you can just readd it manually via Help> Soft UPdates > Manage Configs > Add > New Extension point
besides that we very much appreciate you posting all this information for other users to learn from.
Gary BraswellMemberThis thread was *extremely* helpful. Thanks to both ME support & victOr for so much detail.
The problem still exists as of 13 Oct 2004.
Gary B.
Riyad KallaMemberYes, I had a buddy at work use the Eclipse update (he doesn’t use ME at all or have it installed) and he was unable to restart Eclispe after the update either… I erased his config dir and everything worked again… major bug 🙁
