    Hello,

When I select File | New | HTML (Advanced Templates) from the menu I would expect to see the XHTML templates available – I do not. I have also tried the HTML (Basic Templates) and the XML Basic and Advanced Templates to no avail. Could you please outline what I need to do to select templates defined in the Preferences | MyEclipse | Files & Editors | HTML | HTML Templates section when creating new files of a given type?

[Environment] Eclipse 3.2.1 w/ MyEclipse 5.1GA on WinXP Pro.

    Thank-you,
    -Rod

    Rod,
We don’t offer full support for XHTML files yet which is why we don’t have a template just yet. You can create a blank file by hand using cookie-cutter XHTML file that you have handy if you like and should have some basic editing functionality in the file. We just don’t fully support the name spaces, tag libs and other XML-natured constructs in the XHTML file format.

    Hello Riyad,

Thank-you for your response(s). However, I still have a question regarding the use of the predefined templates (i.e. Preferences | MyEclipse | Files & Editors | HTML | HTML Templates section):

When I create a File | New | … shouldn’t I see a list of the templates available? I am not referring to XHTML specifically, but any file type in general – for example HTML (Advanced Templates) – I am trying to figure out what the association is between file creation and the templates defined in the preferences. The list returned when you select HTML (Advanced Templates) does not seem to correspond to the list of templates defined in the Preferences.

Sorry for not being more clear in my first post.

    Thanks again,
    -Rod

    Rod,
Sorry the naming is a bit confusing. Those templates you are referring to aren’t file templates but shortcut/keystroke templates. If you want to create new file templates, please see this post:

I just instructed that user how to create custom templates if he’d like to add them to his install.

    Thanks Riyad, for the clarification.

I do have it working now and am able to create my own templates and adjust what shows in the create file dialog by manipulating the templates.properties and templates.xml files. The big question now is, how do I protect my mods from future upgrades? Do I have to manually backup and copy all of the files I touch before/after each such upgrade?

    Thanks again for your help,
    -Rod

    Rod,
Since it’s not official, I believe you need to backup the properties and XML files… an upgrade through the update manager shouldn’t *delete* any files (like your templates) but it may overwrite some… although if we ship a newer version of that plugin, what may happen is that the new plugin (without your edits) get’s loaded. So you may need to copy some files around in that case.

It honestly might be easier to just keep the templates handy and DnD them into your project as you need them for the time being.
