Uhmmm – it seems there is no validation inside of web.xml. Eg. if I specify a class that does not exist for a servlet. Is that the way it is supposed to work.

Eg. If you do that in a spring config file, the spring validator flags the line in the file for you.

Same thing with Struts-config.xml. No validation.

    Do I have something mis-configured?

    thanks,
    Peter

    Peter,
Nothing is misconfigured, just TODO items that got postponed when bigger ticket items like the visual designer became a high priority. I’ll remind the dev team.

    Thanks Riyad.

So far I am very torn with My Eclipse. There are some features – like the JSP editor – which are the best I have ever seen. But there I seem to have a ever growing list of the basics – like web.xml validation, a web.xml editor that has a “add servlet”, or “startup order”. The source view is of course a must have, but a designer view which allows me to do the basics without having to google the syntax. Eg. for filters, servlet mappings, init parameters, etc.

    Peter,
I completely understand. To some developers one feature makes the entire decision and it’s usually the one they use the most.

I can offer you confidence in knowing that MyEclipse makes releases often and we progress quickly, so something missing today could be there tommorow. That being said I don’t have ETAs on the specific items you are asking for so if you need those “yesterday”, then using your existing tool and trying MyEclipse again at version 5.1 or 6.0 may be a better strategy for your particular needs.

We never want to force our tools on anyone, the goal is to help our developers be productive and save money. So we need to do what we can to make that happen.
