I would love to see an improved Velocity Web Edit style editor part of Eclipse.

Both Velocity and Freemarker should be supported imho, shouldnt too hard to do extending the html editor.

… add my vote to that too!

IMHO the best of the current crop is Joe Hudson’s Velocity Web Edit:

    http://velocitywebedit.sourceforge.net/

I would love to see this enhanced to allow for mock objects to be registered and used for a better HTML preview of the page output.

Add another one – and I agree on velocitywebedit – although I’m not sure weather Joe is on vacation or there is no room for improvements 😉 (last release is from january).

Any news on this ? It’s kinda sad we cant use the features your html editor offers just because we use a template language with it….
Freemarker and Velocity are the top players in this area and supporting them should be pretty easy considering simple and open source plugins that already exist.

Velocity is still on our list of things to evaluate, along with quite a few other things.

Velocity support Out-of-the-box would be appreciated.

I agree this shouldn’t be difficult… just take myeclipse team prioritizing it for a day or two… that’d be swell.

This is a common misconception that I had as well when I joined the team, but I have since learned that we never do a simple rough-cut of something and release it. New features always get worked over for atleast the 3 subsequent releases and then get major new features in the next release after… the maintenence and feature-request flood gates open as soon as you include ANY new feature “oh god this would be great if it did ABC!”, etc… so really even something as small as this is a full time commitment.

As an example, the hibernate support, believe it or not, started off as a “oh gosh just support generation of mapping files”, now look where it is a year later, it’s one of our most developed, strongest/biggest features we have in MyEclipse and with 4.1 it’s getting major overhauls in almost all areas with autocomplete everywhere, better mapping generation, etc.

Sooo, long story short, it’s more than a day or two 😉
