It was the oddest thing. Everything seemed fine, but when I shutdown, reboot, and tried to launch MyEclipse I got an error about reading a class file. This affects several views including but not limited to PackageExplorer, Class Hierarchy, ProjectViewer, etc.

Everything shutdown okay I thought, so I don’t think anything got corrupted. Is there a conf file I need to check for XML well-formedness or something? Thanks!

java.lang.ClassFormatError: Illegal UTF8 string in constant pool in class file org/eclipse/ui/dialogs/AbstractElementListSelectionDialog

That is definitely a first… maybe the file got borked somehow. Try and restart using -clean command line argument in your shortcut, see fi that helps. If that doesn’t you might need to do a reinstall (incase that file got trashed), but all your settings are stored in your workspace so it’s not that bad.

Q: Are you using Pulse or did you use the All in One installer for ME?

I used the all-in-one installer. I wanted to try anything short of a reinstall so as to avoid reconfiguring the plug-ins and the autoupdate. Not wanting to be too obstinate, I created a new workspace and copied my project directories and most of the contents of ‘.metadata’ directory over ( eschewing the UI plugin metadata directories ). This worked, but it took a little work to preserve some settings like my DB connections. I’ll try the -clean’ on launch using the old workspace.

Cool. That did it. Thanks Riyad for the quick response. Since the ‘-clean’ option preserved everything as I left it, it is preferable to the other routes.

    Glad to hear it worked.
