I created a new Web Project and I am attempting to deploy this project to Web Sphere 7.

When I attempted to deploy the project, the Deploy Type options are grayed out and defaulting to PAckaged Archive (production mode). The deploys take minutes to complete and changes are not reflected until I do another manual deployment.

I would like to put this in the Exploded Archive (development mode), but I am not sure why I can not.

I downloaded and installed the free web sphere 7 runtime provided by IBM. I have a Web Sphere 7 server instance setup up in MyEclipse Blue. The Instance is running in Debug Mode and the deployment connection is Enhanced Mode.

    MyEclipse Blue 8.6.1 20101117
    Windows 7 64-bit
JVM is com.sun.java.jdk.win32.x86_1.6.0.013 that Eclipse is running under.

    dkichline,

Can you right click on the Websphere 7 under the Servers tab and select ‘Configure Server Connector ‘ ? In the Edit Instance window you can select ‘Classic Mode’ for Deployment connection. This will deploy projects in Exploded mode.

Attached is the screenshot which shows the settings.

Let me know how this works for you.

That fixed it, thank you. However, I have a question, is the deployments in the Enhanced mode supposed to be so slow?

The enhanced mode is more robust, as a result it can be slower than the classic exploded mode.

However, we have also noted that sometimes having an outdated WAS installation could also cause problems. So, no matter was WAS version you are using, it would be a good idea to apply the latest fix packs, some have resulted in a very significant increase in speed.
