    Hi,

I’m investigating the possibilities of using a Eclipse based IDE with Websphere integration besides RAD. Today we use WAS 6.1 with EJB 3 Feature Pack and RAD 7. Note that it is WAS base edition.

I understand that MyEclipse Blue is an alternative and I we be looking into that. However, if I understand your product correctly it is conceptually the same as a RAD. It is an extension to a specific Eclipse release and this is what I want to avoid. RAD 7 is based on Eclipse 3.2 and MyEclipse Blue is based on Eclipse 3.3. I would like to use the latest version of Eclipse and install a plugin that gives me the integration to WAS. Much like what Websphere Community edition offers, a plugin that can be used in an ordinary Eclipse.

I want to be able to start and stop servers from my Eclipse and hot-deploy the code. I do not need help writing container specific deployment descriptors etc.

My question is therefore. Do you offer the Websphere integration as an ordinary Eclipse plugin that I can just install in my straight Eclipse 3.4.

I didn’t get what you mean by “ordinary Eclipse plugin”. The Websphere integration is provided by MyEclipse when it is installed over Eclipse 3.4. Eclipse by itself will not provide you Websphere integration.

We released MyEclipse Blue Edition 7.0 milestone 2 a few days ago, this has been built for Eclipse 3.4, the WebSphere plugins which are part of MyEclipse blue are not distributed in isolation. MyEclipse Blue will allow you to start, stop and deploy applications to WebSphere.

Though the current milestone is provided as an all in one install, which includes Eclipse 3.4, the GA version due in a month will contain a distribution excluding Eclipse which can be installed onto an existing Eclipse installation (this is already possible for 7.0M2 if you use Pulse to provision Eclipse).

If you look at our release history, MyEclipse always stays on top of Eclipse releases and will release a milestone followed by GA version of the product for the latest Eclipse release asap.

Hope this helps, feel free to shoot further questions our way.
