I see it on the roadmap but there doesn’t seem to be any documentation on what we can expect.

For the initial release Blue will include complete server-integration for automated deployment management and hot-sync editing/debugging. So if you use ME now with WAS 6.1, you’ll notice you need to still use the admin console to manage deployments, but in Blue MyEclipse will handle it all for you automatically.There will also be full support for the WebSphere 6.1 web services technology stack in Blue. You will also get full project import capabilities. Meaning you can take a RAD project and import it automatically into ME Blue and continue working on it. There will also be support for ClearCase and how it’s SCM/lock-mechanisms work and so on. The price of Blue will be $149.90.

So it is named Blue based mostly on the integration with RAD and WAS.

FrankFrank it’s really targeted at RAD/WAS developers right now. But that’s not to say some of the R&D going into Blue isn’t coming back into MyEclipse Pro, just not the RAD-specific stuff, that will always stay in Blue-proper.
The term “full support” in your description seems to imply that there is currently something missing as far as support for WebSphere web services in MyEclipse.
I notice specifically there is no tutorial/example of doing web services on MyEclipse and WebSphere although there is one with WebLogic.
I have a client that is doing web services with WebSphere 6.1 and is looking to use MyEclipse instead of RAD. The problem is they are looking to do some training on this next month.
I need a little more background about issues/comments people have had about developing WebSphere web services with MyEclipse/XFire to come up with reasonable recommendations about whether or not to use Blue.
I don’t want to tell them they might have to wait a few weeks for the training without good justification. At the same time I don’t want to show them how to use a combination of MyEclipse and WebSphere that will cause problems in the future.
I’m sure this type of information would be very valuable to others also and a major selling point for the Blue edition in general. I’m sure every client using WebSphere and web services would have the same type of question and need information to get them to commit to using MyEclipse instead of RAD.

True, we haven’t released Blue yet though. There will be a big need for blue-specific docs that will get created for it’s launch.

Our future WS support will be moving towards the JAX-WS web service specification. The WebSphere WS work is based on that, but integrated more tightly with WS 6.1, I don’t have details as to what the differences are at this time. I’ll ask a dev to follow up with you.

I know that the JAX-WS support for WebSphere 6.1 is provided by the WebSphere 6.1 “Feature pack” for web services. This means it is a little different (although not much) than “out of the box” WebSphere 6.1.
The “Feature pack” for web services with WebSphere 6.1 is provided using the regular maintenance update procedure and is fully supported by IBM. Others can find out more info here:

If this is the web services support provided in the “Blue” edition it would be critical to point this out to clients looking to use the Blue edition. I just wouldn’t want anyone looking to the Blue edition to be upset with MyEclipse when they try to use the MyEclipse Blue edition for web services without the WebSphere web services feature pack.
I’m sorry if this isn’t the place for this question, bu it’s driving me nuts. I’m trying to work with the MyEclipse embedded Tomcat server. My OS is Windows Vista (sigh). Here’s the problem: Tomcat seems to start up (at least the log thinks it does), but http://localhost:8080 diplays the “The webpage cannot be found” message. OK. I’m an optimist, so I try the app anyway. Of course I get the 404. I can’t seem to find anything like this via google or here. Tomcat is running but it doesn’t matter. What the….
Any suggestions other than the obvious (get rid of Vista)…?
