Why does MyEclipse 7.1.1 force me to upgrade to 7.5?

    I’m using MyEclipse 7.1.1 on Windows XP (all-in-one install). Now whenever I check for updates or want to add/remove software, MyEclipse wants to move me to MyEclipse 7.5. 7.5 isn’t even in production, and even if – shouldn’t I have a choice of staying with 7.1 and not move to 7.5?

    7.5 actually was released via the update site to production Friday, so that is 7.5 GA you are seeing — we’ve been vetting new installers to make sure they work in all scenarios (new installs and updating of existing ones) as well as on all platforms. That took some more time and we didn’t want to block 7.5 updates on that.

    Also the bug of being forced to pickup all updates is a p2 bug that we inheritied unfortunately and will get fixed in 8.x — right now you cannot veto a pending update, all software updates must be accepted as a single job — unfortunately that means a tiny update like Subclipse can also potentially suck down a huge update like MyEclipse 7.5

    The good news is that there is a lot of good stuff in MyEclipse 7.5 🙂

    The web page still only talks about 7.1, and you can’t download 7.5 either.

    Sorry for the confusion, that’s because we are vetting the installers right now before we roll out the full update to the website. It’s all the same bundles though. The installers go through an entire QA cycle independent of the product that can sometimes take days more, so instead of blocking 7.5 that entire time especially since we had the big performance fixes in it, we rolled it out last night and finished up the installers today.
