rfulkersonMemberHello,
After upgrading to 6.5.1 using the ArchiveSite.zip file, I no longer have an XML editor. This issue has been reported before, but the resolution for the previous incident was to use the all in one installer. I despise the all in one installer (and the pulse installer even more).
How can I get back the XML editor???
Thanks,
RonUsing:

Loyal WaterMemberDid you setup MyEclipse 6.5.1 with Eclipse 3.3.1.1 Classic ? Can you go to MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details and paste the information her for me.
rfulkersonMemberHello,
This is from a vanilla installation of Ecilpse from eclipse.org. (I assume this is what is meant by classic). I have used previous versions of myeclipse (plugin installer) off this same installation, but have uninstalled/removed and restarted eclipse with -clean before upgrading. The information you requested is below. Thanks for looking at this.

Loyal WaterMemberCan you reinstall Eclipse to a brand new location and ten add MyEclipse to it Does the MyEclipse XML Editor show up?
I want you to try this to make sure the install is not corrupt.
rfulkersonMemberHello,
I have done a fresh install of Eclipse with no other plugins installed and using a new workspace. Before installing MyEclipse via archive site, the eclipse XML editor is present — after installing MyEclipse 6.5.1 via archive site, the XML editor is gone! XML documents are handled as text, and there is no XML editor present to choose from when using “Open with” or when choosing an editor in preferences -> file associations.
Thanks for continuing to look at this.

rfulkersonMemberPing.
Loyal WaterMemberRon,
Can you grab Eclipse 3.4 and MyEclipse 7.0M1 and use those to setup MyEclipse to a brand new location. I hope that fixes the issue.
rfulkersonMemberHey,
I looked at doing this, but the milestone builds are not available as archive sites. I only see all in one downloads. Please post an archive site, so we can ensure this gets fixed for the production build.
Thanks.
Ton HuismanMemberThe ‘external’ XML Editor is currently not available with the MyEclipse 6.5 and 7.0M1 installs, you need to have the 6.0.1 version for it to still be included.
I don’t mind for it to be gone, it is dead-slow in starting up, even on a quad-core Intel machine. The XML Copy Editor (http://xml-copy-editor.sourceforge.net) has way better features and speed, and comes for free!HTH
rfulkersonMemberMy posts are referring to the MyEclipse XML editor, not an external editor. The MyEclipse editor fit my needs well, so I hope that it can be restored to the archive site install before 7.0 goes to a final release.
Thanks,
Ron
rfulkersonMemberPing.
Brian FernandesModeratorRon,
Before installing MyEclipse via archive site, the eclipse XML editor is present
Eclipse does not have an XML editor, so you have most likely installed the Europa J2EE distribution, not the Eclipse “classic”. There may be some conflicts with the most recent Europa J2EE distribution and MyEclipse 6.5.1, this will be fixed in an upcoming 6.6 release.
In the meanwhile, can you please try with an Eclipse classic installation which you can get from here: http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-3.3.2-200802211800/index.php
All GA versions (7.0 and 6.6) will be available in additional installation formats.
Hope this helps.
rfulkersonMemberHi Brian,
You are correct – I was using a J2EE version and had not realized it. Sorry for the confusion and lack of double checking the install on my part. I have tested using the classic SDK version you referenced, and the XML editor now works.
My apologies again, I am sorry I did not catch this earlier.
Thanks,
Ron
Brian FernandesModeratorRon,
No problem, that’s what we’re here for 🙂
Thanks for reporting back.
Randy MayMemberI’m sorry, but I still don’t fully understand. I downloaded the ‘All in One’ download of MyEclipse 6.5.1 which says it includes Eclipse 3.3. How can I get the XML and Text Editors? I use these (as well as the DB Explorer) for all files that I work on (not just ones in my workspace).
